Today's Adventures = Castelfranco & Montebelluna!
I woke up early today and travelled with Angelo to Castelfranco and Montebelluna, two cities close to each other but very different. Castelfranco has a very beautiful city center with LOTS of shopping and great architecture for pictures! Surrounding the city center, there is a very tall brick wall that goes all the way around. It also has a canal that runs parallel to the walls so there are bridges at every entry point of the city center. First, I took pictures of everything I saw....I couldn't take enough! There was really great shopping here so I went a little crazy. I was the ridiculous tourist with my walking shoes, camera flashing at all times, and ten shopping bags hanging off my arms...I got a few weird looks! But it was very worth it. I found a nice little shop that was owned by a very fashionable girl who looked about my age. She spoke a little English so we talked about her jewelry and how she makes it. I loved all her stuff so I bought a few things there. She makes the best stuff! I found a very neat store that looked like a Pier 1 inside but filled with all things Italy! I found a few gifts for people and some nice things for myself. There is a store that is very popular here called "United Colors of Benneton". We have it in the States but only in the big cities and I have never been to one before. I liked it a lot and their children's clothes were amazing! I bought James a cool shirt and a scarpeta (scarf) for me! One funny moment happened to me today that just made me happy that no one knows me here. I saw a church across from the nice jewelry store and the girl told me I had to go look at this famous painting in it. So I walked over there and as I was walking up the steps, I noticed there was a black car parked right in front of the steps. I thought that was very strange but I kept walking to see if the front doors were open. I entered in and accidentally walked in on a funeral in process! I didn't realize that was a hearse parked out front! Sure enough, there was a casket in the front of the church and everything and I didn't know...as the door nicely slammed shut after me and caused a ruckus, I got the hint that it was time to go! I felt so bad but I went back later on after it was over and found the painting. After 1:00, we left Castelfranco and headed to Montebelluna, a town like the size of Vittorio Veneto but not as welcoming and beautiful. It is a more modern town that is not very old. It is known as one of the richest towns in Italy and you could definitely tell. But there was not much character to it and not much to see but new buildings and shopping centers. I walked back to a pizzeria where I met Angelo for lunch. As the queen klutz that I am, I accidentally spilled my diet coke all over the table and his IPad that was on the table! Thank goodness I caught it in time and we cleaned it up but it was quite embarrassing! I tried to order my pizza myself but that didn't go over well. They speak so fast here that there is now way I could understand it. I just ordered something that I knew that names of: pomodoro (tomato), fungi (mushrooms), proschutto (ham), mozzarella, and peppers. It was so delicious! I ate my whole pizza that was about the size of my placemat! They are very big here but the crust is so thin that it doesn't feel like a lot to eat. When we got back home, the girls were there from school and we took a little cat nap before taking the daily bath routine with my music blaring. They love Pink, Adele, FUN, Hot Chelle Rae, and Keri Hilson from my IPod the most. We had lasagna and tomatoes for dinner...delish! We took a very long walk after dinner that was nice to have after a big meal. We took some cute pictures on the trail of corn and prosecco vineyards. There are a lot of pictures of Castelfranco so enjoy and more for tomorrow!
