Ok, so that only took an hour to upload 17 photos....but here we go!
st and 2nd pictures: This their small but beautiful kitchen. It is NOT from IKEA...from some famous designer in Italy. Very chic but very small for their family so they are building a new kitchen outside of their dining room.
rd and 4th pictures: They have the same red couch set that I do!!!! So crazy because it is the same legs, ottoman, and arm rests. I guess the guy from Blackers wasn't joking when he said it was from an Italian designer?
The stairs are steep and there are 3 staircases in the house. I didn't understand this until yesterday but they actually have neighbors attached to the side of their house, sharing the living room wall, like in an apartment. I guess it is not uncommon for large Italian style homes to look like one home from the outside but it is actually two to four homes in one? I was surprised but I guess it is not that weird.
th picture: That is my breakfast that I had made myself...I was pretty proud even though the only thing I actually made was coffee but it was hard enough! It is very different than what we have in the States. You only drink a little cup of coffee at a time, but many times a day and always making it fresh in the kettle for the exact amount they need.
th to 9th pictures: This was the ballet performance that was on Friday night. Anna is the littlest girl in the class but she was hanging in there with the bigger kids. Very cute costumes and music.
th picture: We went to a park on Saturday with swans in the pond and lots of fish to feed. The girls and I had fun watching them. "The Swan Lake" ballet is their favorite thing to watch! Giulia is on the left, Anna is on the right of me.
th picture: Well, one thing first, their cars here are seriously small....like some are somehow smaller than a Fiat, which are very small cars. I understand that gas is very expensive here, just like at home, so that is one reason they have been getting new, smaller cars. Also, this villa behind the car is a very nice and respected house in Vittorio Veneto. It is right down the road from Gianna's parapharmacy.
th picture: This is a typical pizzeria in Vittorio Veneto. There are more pizzerias than there are churches here, which is saying a lot because there are a TON of churches. Gianna and I had a good conversation about religion today. She classifies herself as Agnostic, she said she has no god or gods. She was very clear to me that she and Angelo want their girls to be able to choose for themselves when they are older if they want to be religious or not. For now, they do not attend church. She said this area is 90% catholic, 10% of other religions but not many people are agnostic. Gianna said they keep it a secret for the most part because people would judge her and think of her as not a good person. The girls do go to a private catholic school with nuns as teachers but only because there is no available public preschools and there are no daycares as I understand.
th and 14th pictures: This is a very old building that I thought was really neat that is next to a river that goes through town. Gianna told me it is an old bicycle factory.
th and 16th pictures: This is all the pictures that I could take in the supermarket. People were looking at me like I was very out of place so I didn't want to take too many pictures, even though I really wanted to. First, they have very cheap pizzas to take home but also good dough from the deli that you can make your own pizza at home. Second, this is the weird cart situation that I was talking about earlier. You slide a euro in the slot and then you use the cart all around until you take it back to the cart return outside. Once you lock it back up with the other carts, then you can take your euro back. Weird concept but I guess they don't have to pay someone to go get the carts from the parking lot. Also, the cashiers have big cushy seats they sit in, they do not stand...sorry Grandma, you should have been able to have a nice chair to sit in all day!
th picture: This is out of order but it is the kettle that you make coffee with. This is the smallest one, then there is a medium and a large kettle.
